Last week, from 18th to 22nd August 2026, the beautiful city of Abuja played host to a landmark moment in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The 5th PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit (PEALS 2026) convened an extraordinary assembly of government dignitaries, regulatory bodies, industry operators, investors, and organised labour—all united under the theme:

“Strengthening Regulatory Frameworks as a Catalyst for Stability and Growth in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry.”

The summit was not just a convergence of minds; it was a celebration of democracy and labour unity. The high point came at the historic First Quadrennial National Delegates Conference, where a new national leadership emerged to steer the affairs of PENGASSAN into a brighter future.

At the helm of this new era is Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, who was duly elected as the National President of PENGASSAN—a testament to the trust and confidence of the delegates.

Standing firmly in solidarity with our sister union, the leadership of NUPENG was ably represented by:

· Comrade Akinwole Oladejo – Deputy President
· Comrade Otite Onohwohwo – Acting General Secretary

Together, they conveyed the full support of the NUPENG Executive President and the entire membership, reaffirming our shared commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers and the sustainable growth of the petroleum sector.

This is more than a transition of leadership, it is a renewal of purpose. As we celebrate this milestone, NUPENG remains steadfast in our resolve to collaborate with PENGASSAN and all stakeholders in building a resilient, transparent, and prosperous oil and gas industry.
