Comrade Isaac Orodivwame Aberare was born on January 21, 1954, into the family of Mr. Aberare Edafe in Agbarha-Otor, a town in one of the Urhobo kingdoms within Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. He began his educational journey at C.M.S School  Urhua-Agbesa Primary School in Abraka, where he earned his First School Leaving Certificate in 1969. He then attended Ibru College, Agbarha-Otor, where he obtained his West African School Certificate and G.C.E, 1974.

To further his education, Comrade Aberare pursued studies at the Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Administrative Accounting, earning certifications from London 1980. He also obtained a Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Benin and a Degree in Public Administration from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. Additionally, he participated in numerous local and international courses and training programs, further enhancing his expertise.

Comrade Isaac Aberare joined the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) in February 1982 as an Organizing Secretary. Over the years, he served in various capacities within the Warri Zonal Council, Port Harcourt Zonal Council, and the National Secretariat of NUPENG in Lagos. His dedication and leadership skills earned him the position of General Secretary of the Union in June 2012, a role he held until his honorable retirement in 2015.

As General Secretary of NUPENG, Comrade Isaac Aberare made significant contributions to the union, particularly in advocating for the rights and welfare of workers in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Comrade Aberare was a strong advocate for union solidarity. He collaborated closely with other unions within the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other labour federations, fostering cooperation on broader labour issues affecting Nigerian workers. This collaboration strengthened the collective bargaining power of labour unions in Nigeria.  He  prioritized job security for oil and gas workers, working to prevent layoffs and other forms of job insecurity. His dedication to the cause of workers and his leadership continue to inspire future generations.
