A HISTORIC TRANSITION OF LEADERSHIP AT NUPENG 6TH QUADRENNIAL NATIONAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE

Lagos, Nigeria — It was a momentous and historic week for the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) as the union successfully held its 6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference in Lagos from April 22 to 24, 2026. The three-day event brought together delegates, trade union leaders, captains of industry, oil and gas executives, representatives of security agencies, veteran unionists, friends, well-wishers, and the press to witness a seamless and constitutional leadership transition.

The proceedings commenced on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at NUPENG Tower with a Pre-NDC National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, presided over by the outgoing President, Comrade (Prince) Williams Akporeha.

The first session served as a valedictory ceremony to honor the outgoing NEC members for their immense contributions, dedication, and sacrifices toward the growth of the union over the past four years. The session was marked by stirring tributes and group photographs.

The second session warmly welcomed new NEC members and focused on strategic deliberations to ensure a smooth Constitutional Review Conference and a free, fair, and credible delegates’ election.

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, the Constitutional Review Conference was held at the Funplex Event Center, beside CMD Village, Shangisha, Lagos State. Presided over by Comrade (Prince) Williams Akporeha and witnessed by the Registrar of Trade Unions at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Rabiu Shuaibu, alongside other distinguished observers, the conference reaffirmed NUPENG’s commitment to internal democracy and organizational renewal.

The grand finale came on Friday, April 24, 2026, with the 6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference, graced by an array of eminent dignitaries, including:

  • Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State, ably represented by Hon. Biodun Ogunleye, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources.
  • The Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, represented by Mr. Amos Falonipe, Director of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations.
  • Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and PENGASSAN.
  • The Chief of Army Staff, represented by Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya, Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport.
  • IndustriALL Global Union Sub-Saharan Africa Office, represented by Mr. Kenny Mogane, Regional Officer.
  • Comrade Nuhu Toro, Secretary General, TUC.
  • Comrade Leke Success, General Secretary, NUHPSW.
  • Comrade Stephen Igho Okoro, National President, NUCECFWW.
  • Comrade Ibrahim A. Walama, General Secretary, NUCECFWW.
  • Management representatives from NNPCL, TotalEnergies, Chevron, NEPL, NMDPRA, NUPRC, IEPCL, AYM SHAFA, SOBAZ OIL, and many others.

At the conclusion of a transparent and peaceful electoral process, the following officers were returned unopposed and declared elected:

  2. Deputy President, Comrade Oladejo Ebenezer Akin
  3. Deputy President, Comrade Prince Moses
  4. Treasurer, Comrade Baba Usman Kaumi
  5. Trustee, Comrade Omokero Israel
  6. Financial Secretary, Comrade Ogbodo Thompson
  7. Auditor, Comrade Leke Adepegba
  8. Auditor, Comrade Tina Smart
  9. Public Relations Officer, Comrade Ndaliman Adamu
  10. Internal Relations Officer, Comrade Ngobe Emmanuel
  11. Chief Whip, Comrade Innocent Iyere
  12. Welfare Officer, Comrade Uzoka Stella
  13. Vice President, Kaduna Comrade Abubakar Bagzumta

The conference ended on a high note, with delegates and guests commending the union for a peaceful, transparent, and truly democratic transition. All eyes are now on the newly elected leadership, helmed by Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti, as NUPENG looks forward to a new chapter of progress, unity, and industrial harmony.
