NUPENG HONOURED BY LABOUR WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (LAWAN)

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, Comrade (Prince) Williams Akporeha and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) were honored with the “Friend of LAWAN Prize” by the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN). This award recognizes their longstanding support for LAWAN.

The award ceremony was part of a one-day workshop themed “Challenges of the Nation’s Economic Downturn: Survival Options for Workers,” held at the Radisson Blu in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Due to work commitments, the Union’s leadership could not attend in person. However, Comrade Suleiman M. Pema, POS (Research & Public Affairs), represented them and delivered a goodwill message from the President of the Union. 

He emphasized the timeliness and importance of the workshop’s theme in navigating Nigeria’s challenging economic landscape and praised LAWAN’s unwavering dedication to advocating for better conditions for Nigerian workers.

Notable attendees included: 

• Comrade Joe Ajaero, NLC President, represented by Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adeyanju Adewale, President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and Deputy President of NLC.

• Comrade Festus Osifo, TUC and PENGASSAN President, represented by Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa (GS PENGASSAN).

• Comrade Funmi Sessi, Chairperson, NLC, Lagos State.

• Mr. Adewale Oyerinde, Director-General, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA).

• Comrade Peters Adeyemi, General Secretary NASU, represented by Comrade Ivor Tarkor.

• Mrs. Omolola Bridget Oloworaran, Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), represented.
