NUPENG HOLDS SUCCESSFUL SPECIAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE FOR PETROLEUM TANKER DRIVERS (PTD) BRANCH OF THE UNION

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) today conducted a peaceful Special Delegates Conference for the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of the Union at the Funplex Event Center, beside CMD Village, Shangisha, Lagos State. The conference was convened in compliance with the judgment of Hon. Justice O. Y. Anuwe of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), sitting in Abuja, 29th May 2024, which nullified the previous PTD Branch election held in October 2023 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The conference, attended by 570 delegates representing 177 units of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch from Kaduna, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Warri Zones participated in the elections.
Distinguished guests present at the elections included NUPENG President Comrade (Prince) Williams Akporeha, General Secretary Comrade Olawale Afolabi, Registrar of Trade Unions Mr. Amos Falonipe, and Barr. Segun Arowolo from the Legal Department of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. Also present were Alhaji Othman Yusuf, President of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Comrade Joseph Akinlaja, former General Secretary of NUPENG, Barrister Femi Aborisade and Barrister Rukayat Jigan of Abope Chambers, Union leaders/ veterans and the media.
The conference proceeded smoothly, emphasizing unity and solidarity within the Union. At the end of proceedings, the Returning Officer for the election, Comrade Onohwohwo Otite (Deputy General Secretary -Special Duties) declared Comrade Augustine Egbon as the National Chairman of the PTD Branch of NUPENG. Comrade Egbon, hailing from the Benin Unit of the Warri Zonal Council of PTD, was duly elected in accordance with the Branch’s Bye law and the Union’s Constitution.

National Trustee- Comrade Shuaibu Muhammed Liba
National Vice Chairman Kaduna Zone- Comrade Lawal Garba
National Vice Chairman Lagos Zone- Comrade Dauda Olabisi
National Vice Chairman Port Harcourt Zone- Comrade Olaoluwa Akinmuyise
National Vice Chairman Warri Zone- Comrade Mathias O. Ote
National Assistant Secretary- Comrade Omokero Emmanuel
National Welfare Officer- Comrade Timothy A. Iseoluwa
In addition are 24 Ex-Officio members from the four (4) Zonal Councils of the Branch.
The newly elected officers were administered oath of office by the Returning Officer and were urged by Comrade (Prince) Williams Akporeha, President of the Union, to carry out their responsibilities diligently. He thanked the delegates, the distinguished guest/ observers, media and security personnels who braved the early morning downpour in Lagos to collectively make the PTD Branch of NUPENG Special Delegates Conference a success.
