Tears, Encomiums As Wake-Keep Holds For Ex-NUPENG Acting President, Comrade Ladega

The Christian wake-keep for the former Acting President of NUPENG, late Comrade James Bandele Ladega held on Thursday January 30, 2020 at his residence, 25, Oyabiyi Street, Aiyetoro Ijanikin, Lagos State.

The elder statesman passed on to the bosom of the Lord in December 8, 2019 at the age of 75 years, having lived an impactful and memorable life.

He left behind a wife, Mrs Risikatu Ladega and two children, Abosede Ladega and Remi Ladega as well as grandchildren, Tolulope Samuel, Ayomide Marojuowo etc.

The wake keep and service of songs were conducted by Venerable Kayode Oredugba and his team from the Church of Transfiguration (Anglican Communion) Ketu, Ijanikin. While presiding the venerable spoke glowingly about the exemplary life lived by the deceased and encouraged others to emulate him.

In attendance at the ceremony were church and family members, friends, colleagues and other sympathisers, who all gathered to mourn the late visionary and astute unionist.

Paying tributes, Deputy President o​f NUPENG, Comrade Solomon Kilanko, described the deceased as a great Unionist that personified trade union unity and solidarity. He said his personal encounter with him in Abuja during NUPENG 40th anniversary in December 2018 evidently proved that he was an exceptional leader.

Similarly, Comrade Jairus Olarotimi Benjanmin, Vice President of NUPENG, (Lagos Zone) stated that Comrade Ladega would be remembered by his comrades, co-veterans, family and friends for being thoughtful, disciplined, compassionate and transparent as he touched many lives and was the very embodiment of strength, patience, and perseverance.

These attributes according to the Vice President propelled the deceased to develop a deep connection with nature and zest for life.

Also in attendance in large numbers were NUPENG members drawn from PTD and SUTAKEP Branch of the Union.

Dr Akin Onofalujo, President Christian Men Fellowship (CMF) of Church of Transfiguration on his part stated that Pa Ladega’s joyous laughter and giving spirit will forever be ingrained in the memories of many.

He added that Comrade Ladega, was former President of CMF and performed meritously when he held sway in that capacity.

He further described the late unionist as a moral icon with uncommon virtues who taught those around him humility, integrity, and hard work both in words and in actions.
